Education
Healthy Relationships
Healthy relationships are a vital part of a person's overall well being. At Second Chance we believe it is important to teach youth and teens how to set boundaries and to think about how they want to be treated in a relationship. In 2023 Second Chance educated over 500 children on the Relationship Spectrum and how to protect themselves while dating in person and online.
Community Involvement
Career/Resource/Health Fairs
Second Chance welcomes the opportunity to educate the residents of Cross, Lee, Woodruff, Monroe and St. Francis Counties. In 2023 we participated in East Arkansas Community Colleges Career fair sharing our experience of what is like working in the human services field, as well as providing resources to the students on healthy relationships.
Second Chance partnered with Forrest City Medical Center to educate employees on how to recognize domestic violence and how to refer client to our shelter.
Second Chance partnered with Wynne School District and participated in the Annual Yellow Jacket Night to lessen the stigma associated with having a domestic violence shelter in the community.
Second Chance partnered with Boars Head, one of the areas largest employers, to educate employees on the health benefits associated with healthy relationships.
Crime Victims Reparations (CVR)
At Second Chance we are here to assist you if the unfortunate event of you losing your loved one to domestic violence occurs. The Arkansas Crime Victims Reparations Board provided financial assistance to those who suffer injury or death as the result of a violent crime. Please review the eligibility guidelines to the right. Click here for the online application. Please call Second Chance (870) 587-8043 and ask for Outreach Coordinator Ethel Hutchinson for assistance.
Continued Support
24/7 Support
Once families leave shelter, Second Chance is here to provide continued support through outreach services. We partner with Crowley Ridge Development Council to assist with deposits, rent and utilities. We provide food, clothing, household items and furniture from the Second Chance Thrift Store when available to help families feel at home in their new location. Second Chance provides continued support groups on budgeting and how to maintain your independence.
Law Enforcement
Continued Education
Second Chance partners with Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence to provide law enforcement training to the officers in the counties we serve. A four hour class entitled, Recognizing and Responding to Domestic Violence, is provided annually and qualifies the officers for CLEST credit.
Order Of Protection
Second Chance partners with Cross County Circuit Court and St. Francis County Circuit Court to assist victims in filing for an Order of Protection. Theses orders are civil in nature, but have arrest powers. If the abuser violates the Order of Protection it becomes a criminal offense. Bring your driver license or State Identification all paperwork must be notarized. There is no fee to file an Order of Protection.
